Transportation from Port Said Port
After meeting our representative holding a sign with your name, you will begin your journey aboard an air-conditioned vehicle. Travelling for approximately three hours along with a police convoy, you will feel safe and secure on the drive to Cairo. Our drivers are highly experienced in navigating traffic efficiently to ensure we maximize our time exploring destinations. Comfortable leather seats and tinted windows also help beat the heat during the ride. Complimentary water and snacks are provided to keep you refreshed for a full day of sightseeing.
The Pyramids of Giza
The first stop on our itinerary is undoubtedly one of the most iconic – the Pyramids of Giza. Towering over the landscape, the Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure were built as magnificent tombs for pharaohs over 4,500 years ago. You will have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of being up close to these ancient wonders. Expert commentary from your guide will help bring to life how the pyramids were constructed using only basic tools by ancient labor forces. Don’t forget your camera – these structures are truly a sight to behold rising from the sands of the Sahara desert.
The Great Sphinx
Next on the agenda is a visit to the Great Sphinx located near the Pyramids. With the body of a mythological lion and the head of a pharaoh, believed to be Khafre, this imposing sculpture dates back to around 2500 BC. Tales abound regarding this enigmatic figure – ask your guide for the theories surrounding its construction and purpose. Take time to admire the scale and craftsmanship that went into carving this limestone statue that remains one of the largest monoliths in the world.
King Tut’s Treasures and Valley Temple
After exploring Giza Plateau, we will drive to Cairo city for a quick lunch by a local restaurant. Nourished, the afternoon begins with a visit to the renowned Egyptian Museum, home to over 150,000 artifacts. This includes of course the glittering finds from King Tutankhamun’s tomb including his solid gold death mask. Mummies of pharaohs and exhibits with hieroglyph translations also fascinate visitors here. Before returning to Port Said, a quick stop will be made at the Valley Temple at Giza to witness ancient construction techniques up close in this lesser visited site.
Shopping for Crafts and Return
We have a demonstration lined up to introduce you to ancient Egyptian papermaking methods using reed fibers – an innovative art form still practiced today amongst traditional communities along the Nile. A souvenir shop provides the opportunity to support local artisans by purchasing handicrafts directly. All too soon our day tour comes to an end as we transfer you safely back to Port Said port, arriving in the late evening with memories to last a lifetime.
