After working up an appetite exploring Alexandria's layered history, we'll enjoy a local lunch. Then it's time to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Qaitbey Citadel for awe-inspiring views of the Mediterranean from its lofty perch. We end the afternoon with a visit to two archaeological treasures - the impressive ruins of the Roman Theatre, and the site that once housed the famed Alexandria Library, a center of learning in antiquity.
By late afternoon we'll head back to Cairo, with lifelong memories from our excursion through one of Egypt's most culturally rich coastal cities. I hope this overview provides a helpful glimpse into your upcoming Alexandria adventures! Please let me know if you need any additional details.
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast for the final day of sightseeing in the bustling capital. Our first port of call is the Citadel of Saladin, perched high on a hill and accessed via its scenic lunar landscape pathway. Constructed in the 12th century from limestone quarried from Giza, it offers panoramic Old Cairo views and a historical mosque complex.
Next we refuel with lunch before delving into the world's finest ancient Egyptian collection at the Egyptian Museum. Tutankhamun's treasures are a highlight, jewelry and colossal statues.
In the afternoon we travel back in time to experience Coptic Cairo's religious heritage. The Hanging Church of St. Mary marks Egypt's transition to Christianity, while the Coptic Museum's collection of icons and manuscripts provides unique cultural insights. Our tour concludes further along the route taken by the Holy Family, Abu Serja Church where they resided in.
To end on a lively note we wind our way to the storied alleys and markets of Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Watch local artisans at work before our return transfer to your hotel, fulfilling three unforgettable days exploring Egypt's history through its people, places and past.
