Our exploration begins at the imposing Qaitbay Citadel, a majestic 15th-century fortress strategically built atop the ruins of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Next, we visit the modern architectural marvel that is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a grand contemporary library and cultural center, paying homage to the ancient Library of Alexandria. A pleasant lunch at a local eatery in Alexandria provides an opportunity to savor regional flavors.
