Dating back to Roman times, this sprawling underground network of tombs was carved entirely by hand from the area's solid rock formations. Next, we journey to the seafront to glimpse Pompey's Pillar, an iconic landmark and ancient tribute to the Emperor Diocletian. After working up an appetite exploring Alexandria's layered history, we'll enjoy a local lunch. Then it's time to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Qaitbey Citadel for awe-inspiring views of the Mediterranean from its lofty perch. To end on a lively note we wind our way to the storied alleys and markets of Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
