Entry is straightforward for US passport holders. Egypt requires a visa: the e-Visa costs $30 and is applied for online before you fly; visa-on-arrival is also $30 (it rose from $25 on 1 March 2026), and a multiple-entry e-Visa runs $65 if your routing re-enters Egypt.

For Jordan, the smartest move is the Jordan Pass. Bought online before arrival, it waives the Jordan tourist visa fee (provided you stay the minimum nights) and bundles entry to over 40 sites — most importantly your Petra admission, which alone is one of the region's pricier tickets.
