How to Plan the Perfect Egypt & Jordan Combo

Combining Egypt and Jordan in a single itinerary is one of the most rewarding travel experiences in the Middle East. It allows you to cover two of the world’s seven wonders (the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Rose-Red City of Petra) in a single trip.

Crossing the Gulf of Aqaba

There are two primary modes of transit between these sister nations: flying and taking the ferry. Flying is highly recommended for time-conscious travelers, requiring just a brief flight between Cairo and Amman. Taking the ferry from Taba to Aqaba offers stunning panoramic views of the Sinai Peninsula, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

Visa Protocols & Requirements

Be sure to carry physical passport photos and cash (USD and Jordan Dinars) for visa fees if you plan on purchasing them at the border. Expatriates and residents of GCC nations should double-check their specific e-Visa eligibility before booking flights.

Planning a Combined Egypt & Jordan Trip

A combined Egypt and Jordan tour pairs two of the ancient world's greatest wonders — the Pyramids of Giza and the rose-red city of Petra — in one seamless trip. Travel Joy Egypt, a TripAdvisor 5.0-rated operator with licensed Egyptologist guides, builds private Egypt and Jordan packages that typically run 10 to 14 days: Cairo, a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, then a short 1h15 flight to Amman for Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. Egypt's e-Visa is $30; Jordan's visa is waived by the Jordan Pass, which also covers Petra entry.

Two Wonders of the World, One Unforgettable Trip

There is a reason Egypt and Jordan are the Middle East's most-requested pairing: in a single journey you stand beneath the last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World — the Pyramids of Giza — and walk through the Siq to the Treasury at Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders. Few itineraries on earth concentrate this much human achievement into two neighboring countries.

You move from the Grand Egyptian Museum, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings to the Nabataean rock-carved city, the Mars-like dunes of Wadi Rum, and a float in the mineral-rich Dead Sea.

Travel Joy Egypt designs these trips so the two halves complement rather than compete — Egypt delivers pharaonic temples and a relaxing Nile cruise, while Jordan adds desert adventure and biblical landscapes. Start by browsing our Egypt tour packages to see how the Egyptian portion is structured before layering Jordan on top, or jump straight to a fully combined route with a private Egyptologist and a Jordanian guide on each side.

The Classic Egypt & Jordan Itinerary

Most travelers follow a proven arc. You begin in Cairo and Giza — two to three days for the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum and old Islamic Cairo. Next you fly to Luxor for a Nile cruise sailing past Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu and Kom Ombo to Aswan, with optional Abu Simbel and Philae temple. From there a short flight carries you to Amman.

The Jordan leg centers on Petra (ideally a full day plus a morning return), Wadi Rum for a 4x4 desert camp under the stars, the Dead Sea, and often Jerash, Mount Nebo and the King's Highway. Travel Joy Egypt sequences flights, transfers, hotels and entrance tickets so the handoff between countries is invisible to you. To anchor the Egyptian half, review our Cairo tours and Luxor tours, then we connect them into one continuous, guided experience.

How You Travel Between Egypt and Jordan

Getting between the two countries is easier than most US travelers expect. The standard route is a short flight from Cairo to Amman, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes in the air, with several daily departures on EgyptAir and Royal Jordanian. This is what Travel Joy Egypt uses for nearly all combined itineraries because it keeps the trip efficient and lets you maximize time at the sites rather than in transit.

A second option suits travelers who also want the Red Sea: the Taba–Aqaba ferry crosses the Gulf of Aqaba, linking Egypt's Sinai coast with southern Jordan near Wadi Rum and Petra. It's a more adventurous, scenic path often paired with Sharm El Sheikh or Dahab beforehand. Whichever you choose, we handle the cross-border logistics — flight bookings, ferry tickets, border assistance and private transfers on both sides — so you never navigate an unfamiliar airport or crossing alone. Tell us your priorities and we'll recommend the smoothest connection for your dates.

Visas & the Jordan Pass — What US Travelers Need

Entry is straightforward for US passport holders. Egypt requires a visa: the e-Visa costs $30 and is applied for online before you fly; visa-on-arrival is also $30 (it rose from $25 on 1 March 2026), and a multiple-entry e-Visa runs $65 if your routing re-enters Egypt.

For Jordan, the smartest move is the Jordan Pass. Bought online before arrival, it waives the Jordan tourist visa fee (provided you stay the minimum nights) and bundles entry to over 40 sites — most importantly your Petra admission, which alone is one of the region's pricier tickets. It effectively pays for itself on a Petra-focused trip.

Travel Joy Egypt guides every client through both the Egyptian e-Visa and the right Jordan Pass tier as part of pre-trip planning, so nothing is left to chance at the border. If you'd rather we tailor visa timing, hotels and pacing precisely to your group, start with our tailor-made tours.

How Long & When to Go

Duration is the biggest planning decision. A 10-day Egypt and Jordan tour is the efficient option: Cairo, a short Nile cruise, then Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea — ideal if you have limited vacation time and want the headline sites without rushing too hard. A 14-day trip is the connoisseur's choice, adding a longer cruise, Abu Simbel, Alexandria or extra Jordan time at Jerash and the Dana reserve, with a more relaxed daily pace.

For weather, the sweet spot for both countries is the same: October through April. Spring (March–April) and autumn (October–November) deliver warm, comfortable days at the Pyramids, on the Nile, and in the desert at Petra and Wadi Rum, while December–February is cooler and quieter, especially pleasant in southern Egypt. Summer (June–August) is intensely hot in both, though Nile cruises and early-morning sightseeing remain doable. Travel Joy Egypt schedules touring around the heat and crowds regardless of season, and can advise the best window for your exact travel dates and interests.

A great experience on our 5-day trip with Travel Joy. The best thing about this agency is that they helped us resolve the typical problems of travelling in Egypt — overpriced hotels, transport and souvenirs.
