Day 1: Cairo Arrival & Nile Welcome

Day 1: Cairo Arrival & Nile Welcome

Your Egyptian adventure begins the moment you land in Cairo, where your private Travel Joy representative greets you at the airport, handles every formality, and escorts you to your waiting vehicle. Settle into your comfortable Nile-view hotel and let the rhythm of this ancient capital begin to unfold. As the afternoon light softens over the river, you might stroll the Corniche, watch feluccas drift past on the water, or simply relax after your journey. Your Egyptologist guide meets you for a warm welcome briefing, walking you through the treasures ahead, from the Pyramids of Giza to a leisurely Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor. Cairo's blend of minarets, markets, and millennia sets an unforgettable tone for the days to come. Tonight you rest in the heart of Egypt, ready for the pharaonic wonders that await at first light tomorrow.

  • Nile Corniche — An optional evening stroll along Cairo's riverside promenade to watch feluccas sail past.
Overnight: Cairo
Giza Pyramids

After breakfast, you set out for the Giza Plateau, where the last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World rises from the desert. Standing before the Great Pyramid of Khufu, you grasp the staggering scale of a monument raised more than 4,500 years ago. Your private Egyptologist guide brings the Fourth Dynasty to life as you explore the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, then come face to face with the enigmatic Great Sphinx, timeless guardian of the plateau. There is time for iconic photographs across the sands and, if you wish, to venture inside a pyramid's ancient burial chamber. In the afternoon you transfer to Cairo Airport for your short domestic flight south to Aswan, the graceful gateway to Nubia. Arriving beside the Nile's most beautiful stretch, you check into your hotel as the sun sets over the river's granite islands and swaying palms.

Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Aswan
Day 3: Aswan's Engineering, Ancient Temples & Nile Cruise Boarding

This morning reveals Aswan's remarkable marriage of ancient ambition and modern engineering. You begin at the Aswan High Dam, the colossal 20th-century structure that tamed the Nile's floods and created vast Lake Nasser. Nearby, the Unfinished Obelisk lies still embedded in its granite quarry, a 3,500-year-old giant that would have been the tallest ever raised had it not cracked, offering a rare window into how the pharaohs shaped solid stone. A short motorboat then carries you across the water to the enchanting island Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis and painstakingly rescued stone by stone from rising waters. In the afternoon you board your elegant Nile cruise ship, your floating home for the next three nights. Settle into your cabin, enjoy lunch aboard, and watch Aswan's timeless riverbank glide by from the sun deck as your private guided voyage through pharaonic Egypt begins.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Nile Cruise
4

You wake to gentle movement as your ship sails along classic Nile scenery, past fishermen in wooden boats, farmers tending emerald fields, and children waving from the banks. Early risers can join an optional dawn excursion to the magnificent temples of Abu Simbel, Ramesses II's colossal statues carved into a Nubian cliff, before returning to sail. As the ship glides on, you relax on deck, enjoying full-board dining and endless river views. In the afternoon you reach Kom Ombo, mooring beside the unusual double Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated jointly to Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the falcon. Your guide reveals its perfectly symmetrical halves and the ancient surgical instruments carved into its walls, then leads you through the adjacent Crocodile Museum with its mummified reptiles. Back aboard your Nile cruise, you set sail again as the sun sinks slowly over the water.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Nile Cruise
Luxor Temple

Morning brings you to Edfu, where a traditional horse-drawn carriage clip-clops through town to one of Egypt's best-preserved monuments, the Temple of Horus. Dedicated to the falcon-headed god and buried in desert sand for centuries, its towering pylons, colonnaded courts, and vivid reliefs feel astonishingly intact, a near-complete portrait of temple life in the Ptolemaic age. Your Egyptologist decodes the wall carvings recounting Horus's mythical battles before you return to the ship. As you sail on toward Luxor, the vessel passes through the atmospheric Esna lock, an unhurried stretch of the journey best enjoyed from the sun deck with a cool drink in hand. Lunch and dinner are served on board, and the evening may bring a lively galabeya party celebrating Egyptian culture. You arrive at Luxor, the world's greatest open-air museum, mooring overnight amid the glittering lights of this legendary city.

  • Temple of Horus (Edfu) — One of Egypt's most complete temples, reached by a classic horse-carriage ride.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Nile Cruise
Valley of the Kings

Today you immerse yourself in ancient Thebes. After breakfast you cross to the West Bank and the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs including Tutankhamun were laid to rest in richly painted rock-cut tombs hidden deep in the hills. Nearby rises the elegant terraced Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, monument to Egypt's most powerful female pharaoh, and you pause before the towering Colossi of Memnon standing sentinel over the fields. Crossing back to the East Bank, you explore the vast Karnak Temple complex, an awe-inspiring forest of giant columns raised over two thousand years, then the graceful Luxor Temple, especially magical when floodlit. Your private guided tour weaves together the stories of gods, kings, and everyday Thebans. After disembarking your Nile cruise, you check into your Luxor hotel, reflecting on a day among the most concentrated collection of ancient wonders anywhere on earth.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Overnight: Luxor
Day 7: Return to Cairo & Old Cairo Treasures

After breakfast you transfer to Luxor airport for the short flight back to Cairo, where your guide is waiting to lead you into the city's Christian and Roman heart, known as Old or Coptic Cairo. Wandering its narrow lanes, you visit the beautiful Hanging Church, El-Muallaqa, suspended above a Roman gate tower, its wooden ceiling shaped like the hull of Noah's ark. You continue to the ancient Church of St. Sergius, traditionally built over a cave where the Holy Family is said to have sheltered, and the serene Ben Ezra Synagogue, making this quarter a rare meeting place of three great faiths and a fitting stop during the Easter season. This layered corner of Egypt reveals a side of the country far removed from the pharaohs. As evening falls, you return to your Nile-side hotel in the capital, with two more days of Cairo's treasures still to come.

  • Hanging Church (El-Muallaqa) — Cairo's famous Coptic church suspended above a Roman tower.
  • Church of St. Sergius — An early church linked by tradition to the resting place of the Holy Family.
  • Ben Ezra Synagogue — A historic synagogue completing Old Cairo's meeting of three faiths.
Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Cairo
Day 8: Egyptian Museum & Islamic Cairo

This morning you delve into the world-famous Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, home to the greatest collection of pharaonic antiquities on the planet. With your Egyptologist, you seek out the dazzling treasures of Tutankhamun, his golden funerary mask among them, and marvel at statues, jewellery, and artifacts spanning thousands of years. Next you ascend to the medieval Citadel of Saladin, whose ramparts offer sweeping views across Cairo's rooftops and minarets, crowned by the magnificent alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali. From there you plunge into the sensory whirl of Khan el-Khalili, Cairo's centuries-old bazaar, where copper lanterns, spices, perfumes, and handmade souvenirs fill a labyrinth of lively alleys. Pause for mint tea at a traditional coffeehouse and practise the friendly art of bargaining. Tonight, back at your hotel, you savour your final full evening in this endlessly captivating city on the banks of the Nile.

Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Cairo
9

Your unforgettable journey through Egypt draws to a close today. Enjoy a relaxed final breakfast and, depending on your flight time, perhaps a last stroll along the Nile or some final souvenir shopping in the capital. At the appointed hour, your Travel Joy representative meets you at the hotel and accompanies you to Cairo International Airport, assisting with check-in for your onward flight home. You leave with camera rolls full of pyramids, temples, and sunlit river views, along with memories of the pharaohs' land that will linger long after you land. From the Pyramids of Giza to the tombs of Luxor and the gentle current of the Nile, you have traced five thousand years of history in nine remarkable days. We hope to welcome you back to Egypt again one day, and wish you a safe and pleasant journey onward.
