Jaz Viceroy Nile Cruise
Overview
Sail the Jaz Viceroy Nile Cruise Luxor to Aswan from $1,755. 4 & 5-day programs, private guiding, Karnak, Edfu, Kom Ombo & Philae. Book with Travel Joy Egypt.
The Jaz Viceroy Nile Cruise pairs polished five-star comfort with the timeless Luxor–Aswan route, sailing past the temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo at an easy pace. After three decades guiding travelers through the Nile Valley, I rank the Jaz Viceroy among the most rewarding mid-sized boats for first-time and returning visitors alike.
She threads the classic stretch of river between Luxor and Aswan, calling at the great temples of Upper Egypt while keeping her cabins, sun deck, and dining room as the calm constant of your journey. Departures run every Saturday from Luxor and every Wednesday from Aswan, so you can build the cruise around whichever city your flights favor.
You choose your pace: a 4-day / 3-night program from Aswan, a fuller 5-day / 4-night program from Luxor, or an extended 8-day combination. Both core itineraries cover the same legendary sites—Karnak and Luxor Temples, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s terraced temple, the Ptolemaic gems at Edfu and Kom Ombo, and the island sanctuary of Philae—simply in opposite directions.
The longer Luxor program adds the dramatic passage through Esna Lock and a leisurely afternoon in Aswan for an optional felucca or Nubian village visit.
Cabins are bright and generously sized, each with a private bath and shower, individually controlled air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, and a mini bar. Up top, the open sun deck and small pool are where the river really reveals itself—palm groves, fishermen, and golden cliffs sliding by. The pool bar, sauna, and onboard massage turn the sailing hours into genuine downtime between excursions.
Dining is full-board, with the kitchen turning out generous international and Egyptian buffets in the main restaurant and lighter fare beside the pool. A 24-hour onboard doctor, WiFi, a gift shop, and attentive staff round out a ship that feels personal rather than crowded—guided groups are capped at eight, so your Egyptologist stays genuinely accessible.
The Jaz Viceroy suits couples, families, and small groups who want a relaxed, well-run cruise without resort-scale anonymity. Book with Travel Joy Egypt and you get private guiding, honest pricing that undercuts the competition, and a team that handles every transfer, entrance fee, and detail from arrival to disembarkation. Compare it against our full fleet of Nile cruises and you’ll see why travelers keep coming back to the river with us.

Itinerary

Karnak TempleDay 1 (5-Day) — Luxor: Karnak & Luxor Temples
Board the Jaz Viceroy before lunch in Luxor, then cross to the East Bank for your first temples. At Karnak you walk the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes into the staggering Hypostyle Hall and its 134 columns, the largest religious complex ever raised. As the sun softens, Luxor Temple glows along the riverbank, once the stage for the Opet festival. Return for tea on the sun deck, dinner, and your first night moored in Luxor.

Valley of the KingsDay 2 (5-Day) — Luxor West Bank to Esna: Valley of the Kings
Morning on the West Bank brings the necropolis of Thebes: three painted royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the terraced temple of Queen Hatshepsut carved into the Deir el-Bahari cliffs, and the towering Colossi of Memnon. Lunch is served aboard as the ship casts off, sailing south to Esna and easing through the historic Esna Lock. Dinner and overnight while cruising toward Edfu; a dawn hot-air-balloon flight is offered.
Day 3 (5-Day) — Edfu & Kom Ombo: Temples of Horus and Sobek
A horse-drawn carriage carries you to Edfu, the most completely preserved temple of antiquity and a Ptolemaic tribute to the falcon-god Horus. After lunch aboard, the ship reaches Kom Ombo, the rare mirror-image temple honoring the crocodile-god Sobek and Horus the Elder side by side; the adjacent Crocodile Museum displays mummified offerings. Sail on through the afternoon toward Aswan, with dinner and overnight on the river.

Philae TempleDay 4 (5-Day) — Aswan: Philae Temple & the High Dam
Explore Aswan's blend of Nubian charm and modern engineering: the High Dam that tamed the Nile and created Lake Nasser, the island sanctuary of Philae reachable only by boat and sacred to the goddess Isis, and the Unfinished Obelisk lying in its ancient granite quarry. Lunch aboard, then a free afternoon for an optional felucca sail or Nubian village visit. Dinner and overnight moored in Aswan.

Abu Simbel TemplesDay 5 (5-Day) — Aswan: Disembarkation & Optional Abu Simbel
Enjoy a final breakfast aboard before disembarking in Aswan. Travelers who want one last masterpiece can add the early-morning excursion to Abu Simbel, where the colossal rock-cut temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari face the rising sun. Otherwise, our team transfers you to the airport, train station or your Aswan hotel, closing the cruise on the river.

Philae TempleDay 1 (4-Day) — Aswan: Philae Temple, High Dam & Unfinished Obelisk
Embark in Aswan before lunch, then set out on an afternoon tour of the city's signature sights. Stand atop the High Dam that reshaped modern Egypt and formed vast Lake Nasser, sail across to the graceful Philae Temple on Agilkia Island dedicated to Isis, and visit the Unfinished Obelisk still resting in its quarry. Return to the Jaz Viceroy for dinner and your first night moored in Aswan.

Day 2 (4-Day) — Kom Ombo & Edfu: Sailing the Nile to Luxor
Cast off early for Kom Ombo, the unusual double temple shared by Sobek the crocodile-god and Horus the Elder. The ship continues north with lunch served aboard, reaching Edfu where a horse-drawn carriage delivers you to one of Egypt's best-preserved temples, sacred to the falcon-god Horus. Sail on toward Luxor through the afternoon, with dinner and overnight on the moving river.

Valley of the KingsDay 3 (4-Day) — Luxor West Bank: Valley of the Kings & Hatshepsut
Spend the morning among the wonders of the Theban West Bank: the rock-cut royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings, burial place of pharaohs from Ramses II to Tutankhamun; the architectural masterpiece of Queen Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari; and the weathered Colossi of Memnon, standing guard for over 3,000 years. Return for lunch and an easy afternoon aboard, with dinner and overnight in Luxor.

Karnak TempleDay 4 (4-Day) — Luxor East Bank: Karnak & Luxor Temples | Disembarkation
After breakfast and check-out, your final morning is devoted to Luxor's East Bank. Wander the vast Karnak Temple complex, built and embellished by generations of pharaohs, then visit Luxor Temple, raised by Amenhotep III and expanded by Ramses II as the heart of royal ritual and festival. The cruise concludes with a transfer to the airport, train station or your Luxor hotel.
