Itinerary

Day 1: Landing in Cairo & a Nile Dinner Cruise
Welcome to Egypt. On arrival at Cairo International Airport, your private representative meets you inside the terminal, handles your visa and paperwork, and escorts you to a waiting air-conditioned vehicle for a smooth transfer to your hotel. After settling in and resting, the evening belongs to the river. You board an elegant dinner boat and glide along the Nile as Cairo's skyline shimmers on the water, savouring a lavish buffet of Egyptian and international dishes while live music, a whirling tanoura dancer and a belly-dance show light up the deck. It is a gentle, memorable first taste of the country before the adventures ahead. Your private guide confirms tomorrow's schedule, then returns you to your hotel to rest. This relaxed opening to your Egypt and Turkey luxury tour lets you shake off the long flight and wake refreshed for the pyramids.
- Nile Dinner Cruise — An evening float along the Nile with a buffet dinner, live music and traditional tanoura and belly-dance performances.

Giza PyramidsDay 2: Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx & Saqqara
After breakfast, your Egyptologist guide leads a private guided tour to the Giza Plateau, where the last surviving wonder of the ancient world rises straight from the desert. You stand before the Great Pyramid of Khufu, raised more than 4,500 years ago from millions of limestone blocks, with the option to step inside its narrow passage to the burial chamber. Nearby, the enigmatic Great Sphinx keeps watch, and the granite-columned Valley Temple reveals how pharaohs were prepared for eternity. Next you explore the spectacular Grand Egyptian Museum, home to Tutankhamun's complete golden treasures and towering royal statues. The day closes at Saqqara, where the Step Pyramid of Djoser, Egypt's very first pyramid, marks the dawn of monumental stone architecture. After a leisurely lunch, you return to Cairo for the night, your imagination full of ancient stone.
- Giza Pyramids Complex
- The Great Pyramid of Khufu — The largest of the three Giza pyramids and the only surviving wonder of the ancient world.
- The Great Sphinx — The colossal lion-bodied guardian carved from a single limestone ridge.
- The Valley Temple
- The Grand Egyptian Museum — The vast new museum housing Tutankhamun's full collection and thousands of artefacts.
- Saqqara Step Pyramid — The Step Pyramid of Djoser, Egypt's earliest pyramid and oldest monumental stone building.

Philae TempleDay 3: Flight to Aswan — High Dam, Obelisk & Philae
This morning you transfer to the airport for a short flight south to Aswan, Egypt's most serene city, where the Nile flows wide and blue around sun-warmed granite islands. Meeting your private guide, you begin at the Aswan High Dam, the vast 1960s engineering feat that tamed the river's annual floods and created Lake Nasser. At the ancient quarries you stand beside the Unfinished Obelisk, which would have been the largest ever raised had a crack not halted the work, still lying in the bedrock and revealing the pharaohs' stonecutting secrets. A short motorboat ride then carries you to the island Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis and rescued stone by stone from the rising waters. After lunch you enjoy Aswan's unhurried pace, perhaps a felucca sail at sunset past Elephantine Island, before overnight in the city.
- Aswan The High Dam — The monumental dam that controls the Nile's flow and holds back Lake Nasser.
- The Unfinished Obelisk — An abandoned giant obelisk still embedded in the granite quarry, showing ancient carving methods.
- Philae Temple — The island temple of Isis, relocated to Agilkia Island to escape the rising reservoir.

Luxor TempleDay 4: Abu Simbel Temples & On to Luxor
Rising before dawn, you journey south across the desert to Abu Simbel, the crowning achievement of Ramses II near the Sudanese border. Four colossal seated statues of the pharaoh, each over 20 metres tall, front the Great Temple, carved directly into the mountainside so that twice a year the sunrise pierces the sanctuary to light the gods within. Beside it stands the smaller temple Ramses dedicated to his beloved queen Nefertari. Your guide recounts the astonishing 1960s rescue that lifted both temples above the rising Lake Nasser, block by block, to save them from drowning. In the afternoon you travel north to Luxor, the open-air museum built on the ruins of ancient Thebes, settling into your riverside hotel for the night. A good rest awaits before a full day among the greatest temples and royal tombs in Egypt.

Karnak TempleDay 5: Luxor — Karnak, the Royal Tombs & Hatshepsut
After breakfast you dive into the wonders of ancient Thebes with your private guide, beginning on the East Bank at the immense Karnak Temple, where a forest of 134 giant columns fills the Great Hypostyle Hall and towering obelisks pierce the sky in the largest religious complex ever built. Crossing to the West Bank, the land of the dead, you descend into the painted royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings, resting place of Tutankhamun, Ramses and other pharaohs whose vivid wall scenes still glow after 3,000 years. You then admire the graceful colonnaded terraces of the Temple of Hatshepsut, rising dramatically against sheer cliffs, and pause beside the weathered Colossi of Memnon, two stone giants that once guarded a vanished mortuary temple. After lunch, you return to your Luxor hotel for a restful evening by the Nile.
- Karnak Temple — A vast complex of temples, pylons and columns built and expanded over some 2,000 years.
- Valley of the Kings — The desert valley of painted rock-cut tombs where New Kingdom pharaohs were buried.
- Hatshepsut Temple — The terraced mortuary temple of Egypt's most famous female pharaoh, set against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.
- Colossi of Memnon — Two towering seated statues of Amenhotep III guarding the West Bank.
Day 6: Farewell Egypt, Hello Istanbul
Today your journey crosses continents. After a relaxed breakfast, your driver transfers you to the airport for your flight from Egypt to Istanbul, the storied city that straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus. On arrival, an English-speaking representative greets you and escorts you to your centrally located hotel. The rest of the day is yours to unwind and soak up the atmosphere, perhaps a stroll through the lively streets of Sultanahmet, a glass of Turkish tea by the waterfront, or a first taste of meze and fresh seafood as ferries drift between the shores. Your guide shares tips for the days ahead and confirms tomorrow's start. With the pharaohs behind you and the treasures of the Byzantine and Ottoman worlds ahead, you settle in for the night, rested and ready to explore one of the world's greatest cities on this Egypt and Turkey luxury tour.
Day 7: Imperial Istanbul — Hagia Sophia to the Grand Bazaar
A full private guided tour reveals the beating heart of old Istanbul. You begin at Hagia Sophia, the monumental sixth-century domed masterpiece that served as cathedral, mosque and museum across 1,500 years of history. Steps away, you explore Topkapi Palace, the opulent seat of Ottoman sultans, wandering its courtyards, jewel-filled treasury and terraces overlooking the Bosphorus. You then step into the Blue Mosque, famed for the cascade of more than 20,000 hand-painted Iznik tiles that give it its name, and cross the Hippodrome, the ancient chariot-racing arena still marked by an Egyptian obelisk and Byzantine monuments. After a lunch of Turkish specialities, you lose yourself in the Grand Bazaar, one of the world's oldest and largest covered markets, where thousands of shops brim with carpets, lanterns, spices and gold. You return to your hotel in the evening, richer for a day among empires.
- Hagia Sophia — The vast domed Byzantine basilica turned mosque, a masterpiece of world architecture.
- Topkapi Palace — The lavish palace and administrative centre of the Ottoman sultans.
- The Blue Mosque — The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, named for the blue Iznik tiles lining its interior.
- The Hippodrome — The ancient Byzantine chariot-racing square, still marked by historic obelisks and columns.
- The Grand Bazaar — One of the oldest and largest covered markets on earth, a labyrinth of thousands of shops.

Mount SinaiDay 8: Mount Nemrut — Giant Gods of a Lost Kingdom
This morning you fly east from Istanbul to Adıyaman to reach one of Turkey's most spellbinding sites. With your guide you explore Arsameia, the summer capital of the ancient Commagene kingdom, where a striking relief shows King Antiochus clasping hands with the god Hercules. You pause at the Karakuş Tumulus, a royal burial mound ringed by tall columns, then cross the remarkably intact Roman Cendere Bridge, whose single stone arch still spans the river after nearly two thousand years. The day builds to its climax on the summit of Mount Nemrut, more than 2,000 metres high, where colossal stone heads of gods and the enthroned King Antiochus lie toppled beside their bodies, glowing gold as the sun sinks over the mountains in an unforgettable UNESCO World Heritage sunset. You then transfer to your nearby hotel for a hearty dinner and a restful night.
- Arsameia — The Commagene royal capital, known for its rock relief of Antiochus I and Hercules.
- The Karakuş Tumulus — A Commagene burial mound crowned by columns bearing eagle and other statues.

- The Mount Nemrut — The mountaintop sanctuary of King Antiochus, famous for its giant fallen god statues and sunset views.
Day 9: Göbeklitepe & the Ancient City of Şanlıurfa
Today you travel to Şanlıurfa, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth and a place steeped in prophets and legend. You begin at the superb Şanlıurfa Archaeological Museum, whose halls display the world's oldest known statues and finds that rewrote human history. From there you reach the extraordinary Göbeklitepe, a temple complex of carved T-shaped megaliths raised some 11,500 years ago, thousands of years before Stonehenge or the pyramids, overturning everything we thought we knew about the dawn of civilisation. Your guide explains how hunter-gatherers built sacred architecture before the invention of farming. Back in the city you visit Balıklıgöl, the tranquil pool of sacred carp linked to the story of the prophet Abraham and framed by graceful mosques and gardens. After lunch you wander the atmospheric old bazaars, breathing in the scent of spices and copper, before overnight in Şanlıurfa.

After a final breakfast, you have time to relax, pick up last souvenirs or simply reflect on all you have seen, from the pyramids of Giza and the temples of the Nile to the Ottoman palaces of Istanbul and the world's oldest sanctuaries in the Anatolian highlands. At the appointed time, your private driver collects you from the hotel and transfers you comfortably to the airport, where a Travel Joy representative assists with check-in for your onward or homebound flight.
