Is a 3-Night Nile Cruise Enough?

Yes. A Nile cruise of 3 to 4 nights is ideal for most travellers, and 3 nights is the faster, more economical choice. On this package, those 3 nights take you from Aswan to Luxor, with stops at Philae Temple, Kom Ombo and Edfu.

Should You Cruise from Aswan to Luxor or Luxor to Aswan?

Either direction works: both visit the same temples, and the choice mainly affects pacing and price. Cruises from Aswan to Luxor are often slightly cheaper and end in Luxor, home to Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. To sail the other way, compare Luxor to Aswan Nile cruise options.

Who Is This Package For?

This package suits travellers who want the Giza Pyramids, a 3-night Nile cruise and the main Luxor sites in 6 days, with flights and entrance fees already included. Abu Simbel is not part of this itinerary, but the package can be customised to add it or to slow the pace.

5 Days, 6 Days or 7 Days: Which Cairo and Nile Cruise Package?

The table compares this package with the 5 days and 7 days packages:

Package Route Best for
5 days Cruise from Luxor to Aswan A quicker trip
6 days (this package) Cruise from Aswan to Luxor Cairo plus a 3-night cruise
7 days Cairo, Nile cruise and Alexandria Adding Alexandria to the trip

With less time, choose the 5 days Cairo and Nile cruise package, which sails the other way.

For a longer trip, try the 7 days Egypt tour with a Nile cruise and Alexandria.

Expert Advice

Plan Your Journey

Everything you need to know about this experience in Egypt.

1
How much does the 6 days Cairo and Nile cruise package cost per person?
Prices start from $1,525 per person. The final price depends on the accommodation level (Comfort, Premium, Luxury or Signature), the season and your group size, with prices for groups of 2 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 16 travellers, plus a separate price for a single room. Holiday surcharges apply in peak seasons such as Christmas, New Year and Easter.
2
Can you take a Nile cruise directly from Cairo?
No. Regular Nile cruises do not sail from Cairo, so you first travel to Aswan or Luxor by flight or overnight train. On this package we include the domestic flight to Aswan, and you go straight from the airport to the cruise ship.
3
How long are the domestic flights on this Cairo and Nile cruise package?
Domestic flights in Egypt are short, typically 1 to 1.5 hours, so little sightseeing time is lost in transit. Both flights on this package, Cairo to Aswan and Luxor to Cairo, are arranged for you and included in the price.
4
What is the best time of year for a Cairo and Nile cruise?
October to April is typically the most comfortable time for this itinerary. Summer, from June to August, can be very hot, especially in Upper Egypt. Prices also follow the season, so check the price table for your travel dates before you book.
5
How much does the Egypt visa cost, and is it included?
The standard Egypt visa costs $30 and allows a single 30-day stay. It is not part of the package price, so you pay the visa fee yourself, along with your international airfare. You can apply through the official Egypt visa portal.
6
Are tips included, and who do I tip?
No. Tips for your guide, driver and cruise staff are not part of the package price. Tipping, known as baksheesh in Egypt, is expected and part of daily life, so include it in your own travel budget when you plan the trip.
7
What is the Grand Egyptian Museum?
The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum of ancient Egypt, stands near the Giza Pyramids, and was designed to hold the entire Tutankhamun collection. Day 2 includes the Grand Egyptian Museum.
8
What should I pack for a Nile cruise in Egypt?
Pack breathable, lightweight clothing such as cotton or linen, and comfortable walking shoes for the temples and other sites on your itinerary. Bring sun protection, a swimsuit for the cruise ship's pool and a light jacket or shawl for cooler evenings on board.
9
Is this Cairo and Nile cruise package suitable for families with children?
Yes. We can slow the pace for children when we customise the itinerary. The 3 nights on the Nile cruise are spent on the same ship, so there is no packing and unpacking between Aswan and Luxor. Tell us who is travelling when you ask about availability.
10
Can I customise this package or add Abu Simbel?
Yes. The package is private and customisable, so you can choose your own dates, pace and must-see sites, and add Abu Simbel, which this itinerary does not include. To plan your own version, see tailor-made Egypt trips built around your dates.
