On arrival you embark your Nile cruise ship, your floating home for the next three nights, and settle in before sightseeing begins. With your private guide you visit the High Dam, the mighty engineering feat that tamed the Nile's annual floods and created Lake Nasser, then move to the ancient granite quarries to see the Unfinished Obelisk, which still lies where it cracked over three thousand years ago, revealing how the pharaohs cut their colossal monuments. A short motorboat ride carries you to the island Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis and rescued stone by stone from the rising waters. You return to the ship for dinner as Aswan's white felucca sails drift across the sunset.

Day 4: Sailing to the Twin Temple of Kom Ombo
You wake to breakfast on board as your Nile cruise glides gently downstream through some of the river's most timeless scenery, with palm groves, sandbanks and Nubian villages sliding past the sun deck. In the afternoon the ship moors at Kom Ombo, where your private guide leads you to its remarkable twin temple, standing dramatically on a bend of the Nile. Uniquely dedicated to two gods, the falcon-headed Horus the Elder and the crocodile deity Sobek, the temple is perfectly symmetrical, with duplicated halls, sanctuaries and courts running along its axis. You examine ancient carvings of surgical instruments and a calendar etched into the walls, and visit the adjoining museum where mummified crocodiles are displayed. As the light softens you return to the ship, dining on board while the crew casts off and sets sail toward Edfu.
- Kom Ombo Temple — The symmetrical double temple shared between the gods Horus and Sobek.
Day 5: The Temple of Horus at Edfu
After breakfast the ship reaches Edfu, and you travel the short distance to the temple by horse-drawn carriage, clip-clopping through the lively market town. Awaiting you is the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved ancient temple in all of Egypt and a genuine highlight of any Nile cruise. Buried beneath sand for centuries, it survived almost intact, and today you walk through its towering pylon gateway, past the great granite falcon guarding the entrance, and into shadowy halls where the walls still bear crisp hieroglyphs recounting the myth of Horus and his victory over Seth. Your private guide brings the sacred rituals and cosmic battles carved here vividly to life. You return to your floating home for lunch as the vessel continues its journey toward Luxor, relaxing on the sun deck through a lazy afternoon of ever-changing river views.

Crossing to the West Bank with your private Egyptologist, you descend into the rock-cut tombs of the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs including Tutankhamun were laid to rest amid brilliantly painted burial chambers. Nearby rises the elegant terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, monument to Egypt's most powerful female pharaoh, set dramatically against sheer desert cliffs, and you pause at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two weathered stone giants that have guarded the plain for millennia. After lunch you cross to the East Bank for the vast Karnak Temple, an awe-inspiring complex of pylons, obelisks and a forest of 134 giant columns raised to the god Amun over two thousand years.
